Experimental investigation of scouring around a single spur under clear water conditions

Abstract This study presents the effect of different parameters on scouring process around spur dikes. Our research group's stated objective was to evaluate effects sediment gradation, flow depth, angle and length process. Since most existing studies generally employed uniform sediment, in this non-uniform were selected. Experiments made a rectangular open channel conditions. Results showed that dike orientation scour varies with type used. Scour volumes 40% greater sediments than sediments. Measured depth maximum at spurs perpendicular flow, whereas volume directed upstream. The increased an increase length; however, varied contraction rate 0.29 for 0.36 A multiple regression analysis also performed, four equations suggested predict volume. Comparisons literature applicable clear-water check equation. Because wide range ratios considered study, which yielded better estimates.
